Bottle Brick Bench for Peace at Domes Community in Davis, CAThis bottle brick bench is being built at the Baggins End Innovative Housing, otherwise known as the Domes, a student cooperative on the UC Davis campus. The Domes face an uncertain future, as the University is seeking to demolish the site due to old and deteriorating structures (the fiberglass domes were built in 1972 and have outlived their lifetime). Former Domie Brennan Blazer Bird has brought together students along with the Davis community to build a bottle brick bench at the Domes to highlight how natural building techniques and free student labor through experiential education could be used to rebuild the Domes for less than 1/3 of the estimated repair cost determined by the University. Our hope is that this bottle brick bench will create peace between the Domes and the University administration by clearly showing the immense educational potential of our 40-year-old student-inspired, student-created home... SAVE THE DOMES!!!
